C-STED was formerly known as STED Project (Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Development Project), being founded on 4th December 1985. It was one among the thirteen pilot projects initiated by the NSTEDB (National Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board) under the Government of India and its office at Kozhikode, focusing the Development of Malabar Area.

STED Project was managed by two committees, 1. Steering Committee, Chairman- Chief Secretary to Govt. of Kerala 2. Task Force Committee, Chairman- District Collector, Kozhikode.

Later in 1995 its activities are widening at the State level, offices were opened in 14 Districts.

Based on the activities and achievements in the field of Entrepreneurship Development and Employment Generation, in the year 2000, the Kerala Government had taken decision on STED Project as an autonomous organization and orders were issued.

Nowadays C-STED (Centre for Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Development) is an autonomous body under the Department of Science and Technology, Government of Kerala.

C-STED is managing by the following Committees:

Governing Body : Chairman - Chief Secretary to Govt. of Kerala

Executive Committee: Chairman - The Principal Secretary to Govt. of Kerala Science & Technology Department

The organization has 27 years of experience in the field of Entrepreneurship Development and Employment Generation.
